About

The Shuang gou area, located in the lower reaches of Huaihe River, hinterland north of Yantse River, has always been the battleground hub. It had been in the shadow of the flames of war for around 5000 years and witnessed a succession of wars and disputes: Chu-Han contention  (206–202 BC) between Western Chu led by Xiang Yu and Han led Liu Bang; the internal strife of Liu Bi, the king of Wu, suppressed by Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty; the two markets in Shuang gou and Xuyi having Huaihe River as the boundary, as the result of Jin-Song Wars; the leaders of Nian Army (the torch bearers, a peasant army that rose against the Qing dynasty in the middle of the 19th century) such as Zhang Lehang and Su Tianfu fought a bloody battle in Shuang gou and Xuyi bounded by Huaihe River in coordination with the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom; the Japanese aggressors occupying Shuang’gou with tragic cases; the Kuomintang army and the New Fourth Army contending for Shuang gou.

With the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, , He Distillery backed the action of He Zimou, the eldest son of ; He Hong, the eldest daughter; He Ziwen, the second daughter to join the revolution. The Huaishang Inn in the front yard provided food and accommodation for Anti Japanese officers and soldiers shuttling between the enemy is and our areas. It was called the Anti-Japanese Hotel and served as a base for collecting and transmitting information, delivering drugs and discussing the tactics of eliminating enemies.
